We believe this particular post is extremely important and being the New Orleans wedding photographers that we are, we hope that if you’re a new visitor to our site that you’ll take a moment to read our thoughts on this specific wedding.
First let’s start off with the fact that Carly and Bobby are an amazing couple who aren’t only madly in love, but are completely perfect for each other. Anyone who is lucky enough to meet this couple will instantly agree. Now let’s fast forward to the end of their wedding day… Carly approached us just after the last song was played while everyone was packing up and saying their goodbyes. It was then that Carly hit us with something we didn’t expect. She said, “Guys, we seriously can’t thank you enough for being here with us today. (ok, so far no big deal. Then she followed up with this.) “I know that most of your weddings you shoot are pretty elaborate and much more fancy than our little wedding, and we can’t thank you enough for even agreeing to work with us even though our wedding wasn’t the big to do that you usually shoot.” That stopped us in our tracks.
There are some truths here. Yes, as New Orleans wedding photographers we normally shoot larger weddings on a grander scale at expensive venues, but there are some very important points we want to talk about on why Carly and Bobby were a perfect fit with us-regardless of the level of their wedding’s extravagance.
First – We clicked, bottom line. We connected and built a strong relationship from the start, that continued all the way up to their wedding day with little messages and emails just wanting to know how were were doing. Bobby and Carly were just as interested in finding out about who we were as we were in finding out about them.
Second – Photography was their priority. Carly and Bobby spent a very large chunk of their budget on us. We’re not saying it’s a requirement that most of a wedding budget should be spent on us, or any other photographer, but what this shows is their enthusiasm to have their photograph taken. They were both excited to have the cameras there, and when we say that 90% of getting great images is just to have an excited couple, we’re not kidding. It makes the biggest difference when no one is playing ‘too cool for school’ and knows that we’re there to capture the happiness and emotions they have for one another.
Third – And this may be the biggest ticket item- They trusted us! They didn’t come to us with any Pinterest boards of images to copy or try to recreate. They loved what we do and didn’t want to interfere or interrupt the way we see our couples and how we work. After the ceremony we took Carly and Bobby outside to a little grassy area on the side of the venue (which was in-between the parking lot and a surrounding neighborhood) for some portraits. On the way back inside, one of the owners told us “In 38 years of business, not once as a photographer ever taken a couple over there for portraits of any kind.” Looking at that patch of trees in the middle of an empty lot could seem quite weird and not that pretty, but Bobby and Carly trusted that we would make it work. Carly didn’t try to get us to replicate a photo she had seen of a bride on the stairs or in the courtyard, she let us do what we do best. This resulted in giving her something that no other bride who has been married at that venue has gotten in almost four decades.
While we love extra details and unique locations (I mean who doesn’t?), what inspires us and always has, is the simplicity of laughter and love between our clients. It’s their uniqueness, not their wedding venue or details, that has us continually falling in love with what we’ve chosen to do with our life and career.
So Thank you Carly and Bobby for letting us be a part of your wedding day!!! You two are amazing and we wish you all of the best things in life!
